Measure twice, buy once

• Break an irregular room into rectangles, circles and triangles and add them up — the square footage calculator does this for up to six sections.
• Concrete is ordered by volume, not area: multiply the area by the thickness. The concrete calculator converts the result to cubic yards or cubic meters and to bags of premixed concrete.
• Materials are usually bought with an allowance for cuts, breakage and spillage. The right amount depends on the material and the layout, so the calculators let you choose it rather than assume one.

Units

Square feet and cubic yards are the norm in the US; square and cubic meters almost everywhere else. One foot is exactly 0.3048 m, so one square foot is 0.09290304 m² and one cubic yard is 0.764554857984 m³. For other conversions use the area converter or the volume converter.
